Norm

Hey Friends for Life gang! It's me, Norm. I was adopted by Teri and Bryan (Sissy and Silly Daddy) back in November '09. My first day home was rather memorable. It was upon my arrival home I met my sister, Velvet the Cat. She's an absolutely beautiful Bombay, but her name is rather misleading. Sissy and Daddy should have named her Chomp! Well, after her third attempt to launch herself at me to attack, I tried to attack her and got put in time out. Sissy and Daddy kept us separated after that and did a slow introduction where we had a gate between us in separate rooms from mid-November until sometime in February so we could get used to each other and I could learn the "leave it" command. I had to accept the fact that no matter what the cat did, I couldn't retaliate because she's only 6lbs, and I could seriously hurt her. She's very slowly coming around. She also yells at me a lot less often and only tries to swat me maybe once a day. In fact just the other morning I caught her sleeping next to me in bed with Sissy (isn't that great? I get to sleep in bed with my people!).

Other than my sister, Velvet, life here is pretty good. I had major separation anxiety when I first came here. There was one day where I barked for 5 hours straight because I was so scared that no one was coming back for me. It was at that point I had to go on medication for about 6 months during my "therapy" (behavior modification), but I'm past all that now and don't need the meds anymore. I know I'm really glad to be here (even if it means living with that cat!), and Sissy and Daddy tell me all the time that I'm such a blessing in their lives. Thank you, Friends for Life, for finding me, taking me in, and giving me this chance at such a good life. I mean hey, how many other homeless dogs go from the shelter or pound to getting proficient with their person's laptop?
