Cali is a beautiful 7 month old Catahoula. I think that's Cajun for ball on energy. Actually Catahoulas are herding/hunting dogs with there breeding roots based in Louisiana.
Most mornings we start out with a 3 mile walk. She will wait by my bed watching quietly until my eyes open. When they do open its over. There is no snooze button with her. Her tail wags a mile a minute and she starts batting me with her front paws. Did I mention Catahoulas are herding dogs? Once up she herds me to the bathroom and then to the closet making sure I get the right shoes for walking.
When we go to the dog park she will take off, meeting dogs or people with no hesitation wanting to play. If anyone is running she is definitely headed that way. When one dog stops she looks for another to run with. I have seen her run full out for an hour and a half without a break. When we get home she will look at me as if to say what's next.
One benefit I wanted was to get a little exercise. I was getting pretty sedentary and wanted a way to force myself to exercise some. All I can say is be careful what you wish for. I have lost 9 lb in 2 months and have not changed anything else.
When home she will herd her toys to wherever I am. She is a very smart dog and I swear she knows when I laugh at her. If I laugh at the TV, I get no response but if she does something funny like let her toy hit her instead of catch it and I laugh, I get a stare. If I continue laughing she will walk over and butt me in the face with her nose as if to say quit laughing.
I am very lucky to have found Friends for Life and thank everyone, especially Jackie for helping me find Cali. Please know I am working hard to give her as much love and happiness as she is giving me.
Thanks
Michael Stephenson
