A place to share your stories about the furry friends that the volunteers at Friends for Life rescued from the streets. Because you adopted a dog or cat from us, you made space for us to be able to rescue another dog or cat. You saved two lives the day you adopted from Friends for Life!

Sweet Alfie
Alfie was named Topsider when we rescued him from the Gilbert Friends for Life. He is very lovable, soft and fluffy, loves to play fetch with his balls and go to the Cosmo dog park. People there are amazed how unphased he is around the big dogs. We are, too. He is friendly with people and other dogs. He already knew how to sit and stay. The only issue we have found with Alfie is he has separation anxiety. He sleeps in a cage in our bedroom at night but we cannot leave him alone either in or out of the cage or he barks and barks. So we did some reading and are going through a retraining process of putting him in the cage and letting him think he is alone. We catch him when he isn't barking and come to the cage and praise him and let him out. The idea is to gradually extend the time when he can handle being alone. We are home most of the time but let's face it, we want to go to a movie together or a non pet friendly restaurant once in awhile. We love Alfie!
